Notre Dame - National champions!

Congratulations to the men and women of the Notre Dame fencing team. The Irish took first place at NCAAs, holding a consistent lead throughout the tournament and beating Penn State by 7 bouts. This is head coach Janusz Bednarski's third championship, and Notre Dame's second national championship this year (women's soccer).

Heineken guerrilla marketing

I just saw this thoroughly enjoyable guerrilla marketing effort by Heineken (YouTube link). This involves an immense amount of effort, but there is no doubt that it's unconventional and cuts through the clutter.

The marketing effort draws attention to the brand, but Heineken doesn't really need that (it already has a strong European presence). More importantly, it shows the brand as cool, fun, creative, and a little edgy. Congrats to the marketing team for pulling it off.

While on the subject of Heineken, I highly recommend visiting the Heineken brewery while in Amsterdam. The tour was enjoyable, and though I don't normally drink Heineken in America, I loved the version at the brewery. I haven't been there in 1999, but I'm sure it's still great.
